I'm a Beweaver!

This weekend has been so busy! One of my tutors from College runs a weaving class in Edinburgh and some of my classmates and I decided that this would be a great idea to take part in it. So we all paid up and traveled to Edinburgh to participate. The class taught us all the basics of weaving from creating our warp to weaving on the loom. So here are my images of me being a beweaver (a believer in weaving, we made it up haha).

Time to revamp those t-shirts

Being a Fashion and Textiles student I always love to re-work clothing rather than throwing it away and recently I seen a image on pinterest showing a great DIY on reworking a t-shirt (if you recognise this DIY as your own from pinterest give me a message and I shall credit you). It involves an old t-shirt, a pair of scissors (fabric scissors preferably, only because they cut the fabric more easily) and ribbon.
This is the t-shirt I chose to customise because it never fits well and I never wear it because of that reason.

As I said earlier you can use normal scissors for this but it makes it allot easier if you have fabric scissors these are mine.

So with my scissors I cut the sleeves off, lowered the neckline and adjusted the hem like so.

We are nearly done, easy isn't it? so now turn over your t-shirt and grab the two back sleeves like so.

And this is when we need the ribbon I have a nice purple ribbon. You don't want the ribbon to be too thick because the straps of the top are thin so you want a thin ribbon to match. So tie your ribbon so that it joins the sleeves together and taaahhhdaaahhh your done!

Customise whats in your Cupboard

Sorry guys my blog got rather neglected as of recent but everything has been a bit hectic between helping out at the Fashion show at College and signing off my classes for the end of term. So Summer is here! well if your like me and live in Scotland we don't ever experience much of Mr sun. But the thought that better weather may be upon us soon is nice. So with this thought in mind I decided to raid my cupboard and look for some old clothes to renovate and found these old shorts. They are a bit on the faded side and I never wear them so thought that these are the perfect to customise. 

 



I started by turning down the shorts to give them a bit more length.

 

I then cut into the shorts to give them a rough edge as I want the edge to look raw and distressed.



I then wanted to bleach the shorts at the bottom to give them a new lease of life and also in shops like Topshop and River Island there are currently alot of bleached denim looks. I made a bleach solution with one part bleach and three parts water and used a sponge to put it onto the shorts. Always wear gloves when doing this.

I then wanted to add something more so I decided to add some fabric glitter, the one I use is Pebeo Fabric Glitter which you can find from most art stores. I got a stiff paint brush and painted glitter on the back and front of my shorts.

Lastly I used a wire brush to distress the edge of the shorts to give them a frayed look.

 

So there you go! A new pair of shorts without the cost. 

Dundee; City of Discovery

  

The inspiration for my blog is Dundee. Its where I am currently studying and live and it has also got so much going on at the moment that people are becoming more drawn to the place. Dundee is having major renovations of its waterfront which will include Dundee having the V&A here. So I thought that with Dundee having major renovations I wanted to create a blog that could give you the skills to renovate your old clothes. I also want to show some street style of people in Dundee and some of the work that I produce while studying here.

DIY Prom Dress

So this is my first post! I thought I would write about one of my first DIY clothing projects. This is my prom dress that I wore to my 6th year prom, the dress when I got it was plain and had some detail at the bottom. When I got it I wanted to add some more detail so headed to my local haberdashery and bought some ribbon, trimmings, sequins and decorated my dress to make it more interesting. I made a belt with ribbon and fastened it with a flower and sewed trimmings on the top of the dress and lastly sewed some detail and sequins on the bottom. It was my way of making a prom dress that I liked without the price tag. Sorry I have searched and don't have any before pictures.
